| No More Long Johns! |
Hello from sunny thailand! We are now back in touch with cyber space. Due to an earthquake in Taiwan our internet at home has not been working since late December. So that's why we haven't been posting on the blog or receiving and responding to emails. Sorry!
So a lot has happened since we last posted. The family came to see us for Christmas. It was wonderful to see them. We thoroughly enjoyed showing off downtown chinatown to them. It was a true boost to our spirits to have family around to see our life here. And...they came with lots of goodies from the States! Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone from TOCC that sent us stuff. It is such a treat to have some familiar tastes. We were so blessed by everyone's generosity and kindness. We loved reading the cards and knowing that people are thinking of us.
After the family left, we wrapped up our first semester by giving written and oral exams. It was nice feeling of accomplishment to get one semester under our belts. We certainly learned a lot. It was quite a rush the last few weeks trying to get classes finished and get our work done for our masters classes. Then we packed our bags and I happily left out the long johns I've been wearing everyday. It's been cold in Beijing. Even our Detroit tough family thought it was cold! The temperatures may be about the same as the northern US, but the difference is that in China you spend a lot more time out in the cold. We don't have heated cars to get into. So needless to say we were more than ready to fly to sunny warm Thailand. It's been a breath of fresh air, literally. We're hoping our lungs will have a chance to get rid of some Beijing pollution.
We are now two days into our masters class. We'll have another intensive class next week, followed by our conference, and then at last...the beach! We will have one week of some much needed R & R. Until then...back to homework. Hopefully we'll have a chance to make some more posts soon. We're in the midst of processing a lot. We've completed our first semester which has been loaded with adjustment and learning. Leaving the work and the culture for the first time is allowing us to process all that we've been through. Writing helps both of us to process all the swirling thoughts in our heads, so we'll probably be posting some of our ramblings soon. So until then, that's an update on us. |

Hi guys, I am glad you are getting a little break and time to reflect. Crhis and Randy cant stop talking about their experience there. They (as well as the rest of our group) are very proud of you both. We opened the new building last week and you have probably heard that there were over 700 people and a completely full parking lot. Our poland team is running the cafe and it was very exciting also. I am going to put our the few remaing coffee cups this weekend for anyone who did not get one before you left. Anyway, it looks like we could have 20 or more people on the Poland team, very exciting. The girls all wish you well and miss you also.
